Reconcile Your Crypto Records Before 31 May 2027

Updated 17 October 2026

General information only, not tax advice. We are not HMRC and are not affiliated with it. Check GOV.UK and your platform. Last checked against GOV.UK: 17 October 2026. Anything marked expected should be re-checked; we plan to re-check the CARF pages on 1 December 2026. Examples use made-up figures or GOV.UK's own examples. Do not enter personal identifiers (National Insurance number, UTR, name, date of birth) on this site.

Short answer: GOV.UK says you must keep records because HMRC may ask to see them in a compliance check. For each pool of tokens, keep separate records for each transaction: type of tokens, date of disposal, number disposed of, number left, value in pounds sterling, bank statements, and pooled costs before and after the disposal. Wallet addresses may also be useful. Exchange reports can be essential but are not tax calculations and don't track pooled costs. The 31 May 2027 date is when platforms are expected to have sent their first reports (1 January to 31 May 2027), so reconciling your own figures before then helps you spot differences.

Routine (not advice)

  1. Export 2026 history from each platform.
  2. Match transfers between your own accounts so they aren't treated as disposals by mistake (GOV.UK lists disposals; check HMRC wording).
  3. Record fees (allowable costs include transaction fees).
  4. Fill gaps in cost data from older records.
  5. Convert values into pounds sterling.
  6. Compare totals with any platform report you receive, and ask the platform about differences.

FAQ

Will the platform's report equal my gains? GOV.UK says reports are not tax calculations.

When do I report gains? If above the allowance (CGT page).

CSV template

Not tax or financial advice. This is a column layout, not tax advice. The file is created in your browser. It is not uploaded and it is not stored. Do not add personal identifiers.

Columns follow the records GOV.UK lists for each pool: token type, date, units, sterling value, and pooled costs before and after. The sample row is made up. Delete it.

What we could not verify

Uncertain. These points were not confirmed on the pages read. A re-check of the GOV.UK CARF pages is planned for 1 December 2026.
